chevron oronite is prepared to meet

the general motors dexos1™ gen 3

specification

SAN RAMON, Calif., December 18, 2020 – Chevron Oronite is prepared to meet the new General Motors (GM) dexos1™ Gen 3 specification. Designed to meet GM vehicles' performance needs, the new specification includes a more recent version of the stochastic pre-ignition (SPI) test, fuel economy test, and upgraded performance limits for deposit and sludge tests. Oronite has conducted extensive testing on existing and new formulations delivering on the company’s latest passenger car motor oil (PCMO) technology.

“Oronite has a proven legacy in PCMO technology,” said Teri Crosby, vice-president, Global Technology. “That legacy, coupled with our OEM relationships, puts us in a strong position to anticipate the requirements of the specification and be prepared to serve our customers.”

Oronite has leveraged its learnings from the launch of products and solutions for ILSAC GF-6 in 2019 and is prepared to meet the latest GM specification. The company typically uses a testing methodology that includes laboratory and real-world test environments. Before the specification release, Oronite was already evaluating its technology in field tests to demonstrate capabilities in key performance areas of dexos1™ Gen 3.

GM delayed the timeline for the new specification due to uncertainty caused by the COVID-19 pandemic. Initially, GM had announced the first license date for dexos1™ Gen 3 as of May 1, 2021. However, in April 2020, the GM dexos1™ team announced the delay in the specification release until September 1, 2020, with a first license date of September 1, 2021.
