Chevron Oronite is working with our customers, original equipment manufacturers (OEMs), shipowners and base oil suppliers to prepare for the upcoming changes in the marine lubricants landscape driven by the International Maritime Organization's (IMO’s) 2050 targets for lowering carbon intensity.
Enabling the use of alternative fuels is one way we’re helping advance lower carbon intensity solutions in the shipping industry. That is why we have established a dedicated lab to study ammonia-lubricant interactions at our Rotterdam Technology Center.

We develop and market passenger car motor oil hybrid solutions that meet standard industry tests. Our hybrid engineered solutions help address the increasing severity of engine oil environment, especially in plug-in hybrid electric vehicles (PHEVs). hydrogen fuel for internal combustion engines
Chevron Oronite has been proactively working on developing additive technologies to help meet the performance challenges of hydrogen internal combustion engines. We have adopted a multipronged approach to understand the lubricant related challenges for hydrogen internal combustion engines including fundamental studies to evaluate interaction of hydrogen with lubricant additives in a laboratory environment. We also conduct hydrogen internal combustion engine tests under a myriad of conditions to understand the challenges and proactively develop solutions. Additionally, we collaborate with industry partners to develop and deploy lubricant additive technologies for hydrogen internal combustion engines.
